Abstract:
This paper presents first results from a system which is currentlybeing developed to predict sea ice conditions in the Arctic Ocean onshort time scales. Remote sensing data are assimilated to adynamic-thermodynamic numerical sea ice model to obtain the bestestimate of initial conditions for a forecast. The forecast includesinformation useful for ship routing purposes through the ArcticOcean. The results show improvements in the sea ice concentrationfields when satellite data are assimilated.
