Abstract

By using standard k-ε and low Reynolds number k-ω model, we compared fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics generated by cooled surface in a cylindrical enclosure at a relatively high Rayleigh number. It was shown that although initialisation of flow is very alike in both models, sinking of convective plumes are mainly located around the periphery of the cylinder with k-ε model. The low Reynolds k-ω model produced flow in the core region and smoother vertical temperature variation. Convection lines are developed in both models.
