Abstract
The talk presents our current knowledge and interpretation of thickness change in the Arctic, and outlines the need for more systematic observations. EM thickness sounding is introduced as a powerful tool to obtain this goal. Results of recent surveys in the Arctic and Antarctic highlight the wealth of information which can be obtained by this operational technique.
