Abstract

In this bachelor thesis, the succession of the phytoplankton at the central HAUSGARTEN anchorage HG-IV in the Fram Strait was investigated within a year. For this purpose, the phytoplankton organisms were counted and measured in 17 samples from the period from 15.08.2017 to 08.07.2018. It became clear that the main growth phase of the common phytoplankton species, namely Haptophyta (especially Phaeocystis spp.) and diatoms (especially Chaetoceros spp.) is in May/June. The dinoflagellates have two growth phases. One in August to mid-September and a smaller one in May. The Cryptophyta (here Cryptophyceae spp.) have their growth phase in September, while the Ochrophyta (here Dictyocha speculum) have their growth phase in November. It can be said that cell numbers of haptophyta and diatoms predominate. They also make up the majority of the phytoplankton carbon (PPC). As a result, the PPC concentration is highest in May/June. In general, in this bachelor thesis, by examining the samples from a whole year, a good insight into the succession and biodiversity of the arctic phytoplankton was obtained and the determination of it was practiced. In addition, a lot of experience in microscopic work and quantitative determinations of plankton samples was gained.
