Abstract
The presentation introduces a recently suggested DOOS/AtlantOS demonstration project on deep-ocean observation in the Azores region. Using a current scientific case study carried out at the University of the Azores on the distribution of vulnerable megafauna communities and how it is shaped by environmental conditions, the presentation provides an overview of the available observing technologies to close the observational gaps. Content has been provided by many including Claudia Viegas and Manuela Juliano (Okeanos, University of the Azores, Horta, Portugal), Peter Berg (University of Virginia), Moritz Holtappels, Morten Iversen, and Sinhue Torres-Valdes (Alfred-Wegener-Institute)
